People in communities all around British Columbia turn to talk radio to hear more about breaking issues and talk radio hosts turn to callers to find out what real people think.

Make sure your views are represented by calling or sending a quick e-mail to the host. Here are some quick tips:

Get to know the shows

Every show is a little different, and every host has their own way of doing things. Spend some time listening to familiarize yourself with the style of the show -- when do they take callers? do they keep callers on the line to discuss topics with guests or just fire a single questioon? -- so you can make a more meaningful contribution to the broadcast.

Focus your question

Don't just call in without a plan. Make sure you have a simple, clear question to deliver. Sometimes it helps to write it down so you don't "freeze" when you go on air. Either way, radio hosts and audiences won't want to hear someone with a rambling, confused question.

Make sure it's a question, not a statement

Callers can help make a show more interesting by asking a challenging question that may not come from the host. Don't just call in to state what you believe -- you're not the guest.
