November 1, 2007

Students and labour activists from the Prince George area will be stepping up their campaign to boost BC's minimum wage to $10 this weekend, to mark the sixth anniversary of BC's last increase to the minimum wage.

Tomorrow evening, activists will be collecting signatures for the B.C. Federation of Labour $10 NOW petition at the Prince George Coliseum at 6:30 pm before the Spruce Kings take on the Quesnel Millionaires.

On Saturday, activists will "March for the Minimum Wage" leaving from the College of New Caledonia at 11:00 am to proceed to minimum wage employer, Wendy's fast food restaurant on West Central, and ending at MLA Pat Bell's office.

Over 40,000 people have signed the $10 NOW petition, as well, some 30 municipal councils, the Union of BC Municipalities, important community organizations and even some business groups all back efforts to win a higher minimum wage.

According to recent statistics, close to a quarter million BC workers earn less than $10.
