JOB OPPORTUNITY: Communications Specialist (Term Position)

The B.C. Federation of Labour is seeking a full-time term position Communications Specialist. The Communications Specialist will work collaboratively with the Count Me In Team to advance the Campaign goals through print and digital materials and innovative organizing strategies. The Specialist will be responsible for the graphic design and production of written and electronic materials, including: posters and leaflets for use in local campaigns, website and newsletter content, and special Campaign materials such as direct mail pieces or E-campaign releases related to Count Me In.
Responsibility
• Developing and designing materials for the Count Me In Campaign, including direct mail and e-mail communications;
• Developing key themes and messages, writing and overseeing the production of flyers, newsletters, advertisements, and other materials for use in the Count Me In Campaign; and
• Developing website functionality and other electronic communications vehicles, such as videos and slide shows.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Applicants must have:
• Excellent communication skills, personal discipline and organization, good judgment and the ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures;
• Working knowledge of the structure, history, policies and principles of the labour movement in British Columbia;
• Demonstrated experience developing political materials for campaigns, elections, and issue-awareness;
• Excellent proficiency with Adobe Suite including Photoshop, In Design, Illustrator, and Acrobat;
• Strong inter-personal, listening, oral and written communication and organizational skills;
• Excellent writing and editing skills in relation to political materials;
• Minimum three years experience in communications related fields such as media, publications, web work or member communications;
• Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and projects, work to deadline including demonstrated experience in developing Campaign and personal work plans and goals;
• Willingness to work long irregular hours and travel on a regular basis, as needed; and
• Experience with blogs, web 2.0, social networking applications, and E-newsletters, and knowledge of the latest on-line campaigning techniques an asset.

This position is covered by a Collective Agreement with excellent salary and benefits.
