JOB OPPORTUNITY: Field Organizers (Term Position)

The B.C. Federation of Labour is seeking four full-time term position Field Organizers. Working with local unions, Labour Councils and community organizations, Field Organizers will lead the Count Me In Campaign on the ground in selected regions of the province, ensuring affiliates are able to canvass members, identify issues and voters, support labour issues in their regions and perform general campaign organizing.
Field Organizers will be based in: Prince George/Northern BC, Kamloops/Cariboo, Vancouver/Burnaby, and Port-Coquitlam/Tri Cities. The Federation is seeking an organizer who is multi-lingual with fluency in Mandarin and Cantonese to work in Vancouver.
Responsibility
• Implementing regional organizing strategies, including identifying priorities and drafting Campaign plans;
• Identifying, recruiting, developing, and training volunteers to participate in organizing campaigns;
• Collaborating in the development of outreach materials and leaflets;
• Working with the Communication Specialist to execute proactive regional communication and media strategies;
• Communicating Campaign objectives with community groups, and the public;
• Assisting in the development and delivery of training workshops for union members and community organizations; and
• Working collaboratively with the Canadian Labour Congress, regional Labour Councils, union officers and staff, local leadership and volunteer member organizers.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Applicants must have:
• Excellent communication skills, personal discipline and organization, exercise good judgment, able to work with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures;
• Working knowledge of the structure, history, policies and principles of the labour movement in British Columbia;
• Demonstrated election and campaign organizing experience, including communications, organization, and management skills;
• Proven ability to motivate and organize volunteers;
• Strong inter-personal, communication and organizational skills;
• Be prepared to travel as required and work long and irregular hours, including weekends;
• Ability to take direction and work independently with minimal supervision;
• Demonstrated ability to work under pressure in stressful situation, work to tight deadlines and competing demands, both independently and as a team member; and
• Valid driver's license and vehicle.
This position is covered by a Collective Agreement with excellent salary and benefits.
