JOB OPPORTUNITIES: B.C. FEDERATION OF LABOUR - “COUNT ME IN” POLITICAL ACTION PROGRAM

The B.C. Federation of Labour is seeking candidates for its Count Me In Campaign (CMI) team. Count Me In works with affiliates of the B.C. Federation of Labour to maximize members' participation in the upcoming municipal, provincial, and federal election on the issues of concern to union members. The Count Me In Campaign offers participants an opportunity to work with a wide range of union members across the province while developing and implementing new approaches to voter contact and mobilization.

Interested candidates are welcome to apply for one or more of the following positions, all of which report to the Federation's Count Me in Coordinator. The full job descriptions can be found at www.bcfed.ca.

Communications Specialist

The Communications Specialist will be responsible for the production of written and electronic materials, including posters and leaflets for use in local campaigns, website and newsletter content, and special campaign materials such as direct mail pieces or E-campaign releases. The Specialist will have at least 2 years experience as a communications professional in a political organization. The Specialist must have experience in developing materials for diverse audiences using Photoshop, Illustrator, and In Design. The Communications Specialist will work closely with the Database and Information Technology Specialist and be based in the Vancouver office.

Field Organizers

Working with local unions, Labour Councils and community organizations, Field Organizers will lead the Campaign on the ground in selected regions of the province, ensuring affiliates are able to canvass members, identify issues and voters, support labour issues in their regions and perform general campaign organizing. Field Organizers will be based in: Prince George/Northern BC, Kamloops/Cariboo, Vancouver/Burnaby, and Port-Coquitlam-Tri Cities.

Organizer (Mandarin and Cantonese)

The Federation is seeking an Organizer with proficiency in Cantonese, Mandarin and English, as well as written Chinese. This Organizer will recruit, train, and coordinate Mandarin and Cantonese-speaking union members involved with the political action programs of the labour movement. The successful candidate will be familiar with social justice organizing and the BC labour movement. The successful candidates will discuss and educate members on local, provincial, and federal political issues. This position is based in Metro Vancouver.
The term for the all of the positions will be August 2008 through to May 15, 2009. Deadline for applications is July 31, 2008.
