Labour calls on British Columbians to support Coalition government
The B.C. Federation of Labour and the Canadian Labour Congress (CLC) are calling on British Columbians to support the proposed coalition government in order to ensure that Canada has a government prepared to deal with the economic crisis the country is facing.
"Instead of dealing with the economic crisis the Harper government chose to attack its opponents, lash out at workers, cut services and play political games," said Jim Sinclair, President of the Federation. "We don’t need another $300 million election. We need an alternative."
"Canadians are worried about their jobs, their savings, their pensions and their families," says Ken Georgetti, President of the Canadian Labour Congress. "Right now we need our political leaders to work together for the good of the economy and the country."
"More British Columbians voted for the NDP and the Liberals than voted for Stephen Harper," Sinclair added. "If the coalition government is successful they will legitimately represent the majority of voters in Canada, something that Stephen Harper does not."
The Federation and the CLC are calling on British Columbians to join a rally to support the coalition government and to hear from representatives of the NDP and the Liberals. The rally is being held Thursday, December 4th, at 6 pm at the Vancouver Convention and Exhibition Centre, 999 Canada Place.
