Driver of Van Involved in Fatal Crash Killing Farmworkers to be Sentenced Tomorrow in Abbotsford Provincial Courthouse

Harwinderpal Kaur Gill the driver of the passenger van involved in a fatal crash last year killing three women farmworkers, will be sentenced tomorrow in the Abbotsford Provincial Courthouse.

Sarbjit Kaur Sidhu, 30, Amarjit Bal, 52 and Sukhvinder Kaur Punia, 52 were killed and fourteen others were seriously injured on March 7, 2007 when the van collided with two transport trucks, while travelling eastbound on Hwy 1 just west of Chilliwack.

Despite the RCMP recommending criminal charges, the driver faces charges under the Motor Vehicle Act.

Families of the deceased farmworkers and representatives of the B.C. Federation of Labour will be attending tomorrow’s Provincial Court proceedings.
